I've shrunk nearly 2 inches.

I'm "aggressively greying" according to my hairdresser/therapist.

I'm saggy and wrinkled, receding and protruding in all the wrong places.

That's what age, and 13 years as the parent of a special needs child will do to you.

I am slower to anger, blame or judge.

I am overflowing with gratitude most every day.

That's what age, and 13 years as a parent of a special needs child will do to you.

love.

mabe the protrusions are just the overflowing gratitude!!

i went to pick up some bronzer the other day. the woman at the chanel counter ever so gently suggested a bottle of $95 creme de la something to adress the beginnings of 'those fine lines around the eyes'.

i glanced in the mirror. i scrunched my face a little. i saw them .. small lines emerging from the corners of my eyes .. wending their way toward my hairline.

laughlines.

why, i asked a loud, would i ever want to erase the evidence that i've spent the better part of my thirty eight years laughing?

i took the bronzer, told her she could keep the cream.

I really admire you Carrie. My ex-brother-in-law has CP. I watched my ex-mother-in-law nearly destroy her physical self every day caring for Chad. But she never complained. You are a truly blessed woman. And beautiful.

Yes ma'am, I've earned every steel gray hair, wrinkle, sag, bag and line!

PS I can see your message on a Mother's Day card, beautifully illustrated in abstract water color.

You and me both dearie, although I've given up with the grey steel iron crinkly wire fight as the battle was won a long time back.
Cheers

I agree with Kim. Your beauty leaks from you like a faucet. And damn if you don't look fabulous on top of it!

Oo, careful jesswilson! I once bought an ugly dress because the snotty woman in the dress department said to me, "Honey, that's for PETITES." I showed her - I bought a piece of crap that she probably received commission for! In hindsight it wasn't my most shining moment. LOL

I've gone from being called "Miss" to "Ma'am" this past year. I nearly sob every time I hear it.

Those two inches you lost? They're not really lost. They have grown your heart. Love.

You are going to be the cutest little old lady ever! One of those ones that people can pass on the street and wonder at all the laugh lines around your eyes.

Can't wait to see it!

You, my dear friend, are adorable! Lovely. Beautiful!

And wise, to boot!

Definitely beautiful! Amazing and wonderful! Those are some other things that 13 years as a parent of a special needs child will do to you.
