"Stillness within one individual can affect society beyond measure." Bede Griffiths

Lots of people have said to me, "It's so great you have a place to go to get away." They are right. It is great. It's better than great, it's heaven on earth.

Not everyone has a "place" to go, I get that. But if you did, would you?

Really?

All the people giving me the, "You're so lucky you can get away" business could do it too. But they won't. Not that they can't, they won't.

"I would never trust my husband with the kids!" I've heard, which makes me wonder why they're raising kids in the first place with such an "untrustworthy" creature.

I don't think not trusting the spouse/partner/grandparents/friends is really the issue. I think it's that they don't trust themselves to let go of control.

That was true for me, until the holding on of control became impossible, and the letting go became the only option.

Control is an illusion - we never "have it" so what could it hurt to let it go?

What's the worst thing that could happen?

Sometimes you are living the worst case scenario, and that is in and of itself a gift, because you've got nothing to lose.

And everything to gain.

I'm going away next week, by myself, for three long weeks. I've never been alone for that long. I wonder what will happen.

And have a good time.

I think you're right - most could but don't, probably not suspecting how valuable getting away is.

For a smaller number, they really would if they could but can't.

I agree Carrie, in fact, we owe it to our family to get away, if not for a weekend then for an hour.

I am still jealous of the beautiful place you have available.

I'm always alone, and this week my niece was with me, and frankly, I don't have a clue how you mommies do it -- always surrounded!

I loved having her here, but I knew she was going home, so that HELPED!

We had great talks and did some really cool things together, and I was wasted tired yesterday when I dropped her at the airport.

I'm loving the stillness of centering prayer and my getaway trips to local monasteries, too.

Did I tell you that the centering prayer group is now meeting at my house each week? It's cool we sit together in silence for 20 minutes!

And one day I'm going back to Sisters to your house!!!
