AT HOME IN A CASTLE
I just got the newsletter from my sorority in the mail yesterday. Love looking at the pictures of the active members. Don't love seeing them all dressed up for an 80's party, looking frighteningly like we DID when I lived in that same house.
This is a picture of the place I was lucky enough to call home for four years.
In this home I was given the things you're supposed to get at home:
Support
Encouragement
Solidarity
Companionship
Help
Community
Shared responsibility
Structure
Order
Predictability
Protection
Family
Love
I don't care what anyone says about sororities, I can't speak to that, but I can speak to my own experience.
It was a home.
Better late than never.

I just had an original thought, "Home is where the heart is."
I can see why your Sorority gave you all those things. It worked the way I thought being in a Sorority would be.
I did not feel those things in my Sorority. I lived in a big beautiful castle too. It never felt like home to me. I never felt comfortable living in the house (although I did for 2 years). I never felt the feelings of true sisterhood, like I pretended to. However, there are some friendships I still have from my sorority. These friendships I treasure and for that I am thankful to my sorority.
I guess it still depends on the people who live in the house. You were lucky.
We get it where we can. For me, it was once I became a mother and joined a community of other mothers. It's amazing what nurturing, companionship, shared intimacy and support can do for one when one has not experienced that previously! It's huge!
Yes. We get it where we can, and I'm so glad you've got your sisters! That's so IMPORTANT.
That's one BEAUTIFUL CASTLE!
I met you in that castle. It was everything you said it was and I loved the experience. Wouldn't trade it for the world. I love you Carrie.
I'm glad you got that. Mine came in the theatre. Those were good times. Spiritually fulfilling times, too.
I was never in a sorority, but I did have a fondness for sorority girls. ;)
