OUT WITH THE OLD
Woohoo turns 15 in two months.
Sunday she voluntarily cleaned and organized her bedroom, two things, let's just say, she never "volunteers" to do.
But she did, and she really got after it. She gathered her 1,001 hair ties, she grouped her shoes, she put like with like on her desk and in her dresser drawers. And I was one proud and happy mama.
Until I saw the books.
She opened her door and was dragging behind her the laundry basket filled with books she no longer wanted on the white shelves of the bookcase I painted for her when I was readying her nursery.
The one that held all the Beatrix Potter books.
And The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
And Goodnight Moon.
And The Runaway Bunny.
That bookcase.
It was hard enough moving those books off, and Junie B. Jones on.
Then came the Little House series.
My old Nancy Drews.
"Mom," if it's okay with you, I'd like to take these books off, make room for some of my newer books now, if that's okay with you."
I lied, and told her it was fine.

Bring the new books right on over!
(I boxed and kept those special books for my daughter. She'll want them later.) :)
I have never been sentimental about my oldest one getting older and shaking off the "kids" books-replacing horse stories with Twilight- but I have just realized that she plucks her eyebrows (at 12) which in my opinion were already perfect and I am thinking that the days of her having a "natural" God-given face are numbered. Whether it's books or tweezers it always comes with a SIGH doesn't it?
oh!no!
Is it Twilight? It's not Stephen King yet is it?
Ow. Thank God for boxes and basements.
oh no....i feel your pain......I am going thru the same...but those books will never really leave the house!
:)XOL
I hope you hid them all in the basement when she wasn't looking. In about 12-15 years when she has kids of her own, she'll want them again.
Gulp.
But I guess she does have to make room for all the new Courtney Sheinmel books, right?
Awwwww.
Well.
At least she reads.
Books OFF the shelves? I didn't know such a thing was possible. Is that possible?
So pleased she cleaned and organized by herself. What a gift that she didn't enlist your help. I'm looking forward to that day....
Ahhh Carrie...Big Hug!
Save the Little House books! I still have mine and still love them. I even read them to my boys when they were younger and they pretended to like them!
I love the Little House books!! It must be so sad to see them go. I agree with Angie- save them for her. She'll want them again one day.
Time marches on. But hey--she wants more books. That's good.
Mommy,
I didnt know that the mean as much as they do to you as they do to me. That is why I did not want to get rid of them, simply not in my room. I still love them, and you can count on it that when I am 30 yrs old, I will not be reading a large book as I should be, Junie B. Jones will be what I read!
