The Blessing of Unanswered Prayers
I asked for strength that I might achieve;
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy;
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I had asked for,
but eveything that I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered;
I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

I love it. I prayed for tolerance and I am surrounded by the most maddening people!

chorus is
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when youre talkin to the man upstairs
That just because He doesnt answer doesnt mean He dont care
Some of gods greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.
Wow, I needed this right now. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI stopped praying for patience a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteSelah.
Namaste. Love. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this.
ReplyDeleteAs one who has had many "unanswered" prayers, I have lived a colorful and adventurous life. I am reminded to be thankful for the abundance that exists all around us, and in offering up that shift in perspective, I become surrounded by the beauty and perfection of the unfolding of life all around me.
Caveat: Of course in hindsight the perfection is 20/20. In the thick of it all, it may look like bushwhacking through brambles.
Ah, the divinity of it all, she says while raising a glass and chuckling. "What a wonderful world...."
